ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and/or applying electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.
The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues.

An obstruction, in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up the flow in one part of the body and restricts it in others. The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points; the acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions at the dams, and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians.

Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the body's internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.

The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body's natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture needles are very thin and solid, and are made from stainless steel. There is no risk of infection from the disposable needles. Most patients feel no pain. Occasionally, a few patients feel only minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, there is no pain felt.
The abdominal pain related to indigestion, urinary obstructions, liver and gallbladder disorders and gynecological condition etc. Abdominal pain is one of the categories people complained about.

Based on a study published in the Journal of Chinese Medicine, acupuncture has been shown to provide overwhelmingly effective in relief for abdominal pain, the effect rate as high as 95.12%. The study found acupuncture promotes digestion, moves the energy to prevent constipation, and other factors that might cause pain.

There are 10-15 acupuncture sessions in one course of treatment. Treatment frequency depends on individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
Acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease, GERD) is a condition in which the stomach contents (food or liquid) leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube from the mouth to the stomach). The symptoms include irritated esophagus, heartburn, regurgitation, bloating, burping, dysphagia, hiccups or bloody stool.

When the esophageal sphincter relaxes at the wrong times, it causes stomach acid to go backward into the esophagus. A study reported in the American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology showed electrical stimulation acupuncture is very effective in treating acid reflux (GERD). Acupuncture stimulates/balances nervous system and muscles to allow lower esophageal sphincter working rightly. Acupuncture also helps balance stomach acid, protects the membrane of esophagus and stomach.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has helped numerous patients suffering Anxiety back to recovery. Anxiety involves intense feelings of fear, worry or apprehension often associated with specific situations, events or objects. The physical symptoms that accompany these feelings include heart palpitations, trembling, sweating, pale skin, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, stomach aches, diarrhea, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, or headaches. Someone suffering from anxiety might also experience panic attacks.

Acupuncture appears to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry. It can help with anxiety and related symptoms. Part of this effect may be from endorphins, but it appears to involve other brain chemicals as well. Nerves "talk" to each other through the use of chemical agents called neurotransmitters. Many of these agents exist, and some of the more well known are serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and GABA. Improving the function of serotonin and GABA has a relaxing/calming effect as well as a mood stabilizing effect.
Arthritis is a group of conditions involving damage to the various joints of the body. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in people older than fifty-five years. There are different forms of arthritis; each has a different cause. The most common form of arthritis-- Osteoarthritis is a degeneration of the bone and cartilage of the joints. Other arthritis forms are Rheumatoid Arthritis (autoimmune diseases) in which the body attacks itself. Gouty Arthritis which results in inflammation is caused by the deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint. There is also an uncommon form of gout caused by the formation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate. This gout is known as Pseudogout.

NCCAM (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) and NIAMS (National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases) indicated that acupuncture is an effective complement to conventional Arthritis treatment and can be successfully employed as part of a multidisciplinary approach to treating the symptoms of arthritis. Acupuncture improves immune functions and blood flow to the joints to speed healing and to "wash out" inflammatory proteins. Acupuncture provides pain relief, improves brain-based pain tolerance.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has developed a special acupuncture technique that helps patients with Asthma successfully.
Acupuncture is very safe and effective in relieving the symptoms of Asthma. It aims to treat the root cause of the asthma rather than just the symptoms.

Acupuncture can alleviate the acute onset of an Asthmatic attack. Acupuncture adjusts parasympathetic nerve system, relaxes contraction of smooth muscle, congestion and edema of the bronchial mucosa. It also reduces the inflammatory secretion, improves and prevents the narrowing of small bronchioles. Ultimately, it eases the work of breathing. It also aids to balance the immune system and prevents recurrence. Individualized treatment plan is applied to different forms of Asthma. Researches have shown that acupuncture strengthens health so that allergic response is minimized.
Our bodies have an immune system that protects us from disease and infection. But if you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system attacks itself by mistake, and you can get sick. Autoimmune Diseases can affect connective tissue in your body (the tissue which binds together body tissues and organs). Autoimmune Disease can affect many parts of your body, like your nerves, muscles, endocrine system (system that directs your body's hormones and other chemicals), and digestive system.

There are approximately 80 recognized Autoimmune Diseases. Some of the more common autoimmune conditions that acupuncture can treat are: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Interstitial Cystitis / Rheumatoid Arthritis / Alopecia Areata / Celiac Disease / Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease / Crohn's Disease / Fibromyalgia Syndrome / Grave's Disease (overactive thyroid) / Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (underactive thyroid) / Multiple Sclerosis / Raynaud's Disease / Sjogren's Syndrome/Xerophthalmia / Systemic Lupus Erythmatosus / Ulcerative Colitis

Acupuncture treats Autoimmune Diseases by reducing inflammation, alleviating pain, improving energy and vitality, and addressing the wide variety of symptoms that occur. Acupuncture reduces the damage of the membranes, tissues, and organs, caused by an overactive immune response. It treats the root of the disease by putting the immune system back into balance.
Millions of people suffer with low back pain, the pain that usually starts from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine which the pain may radiate to the legs or feet and arms or hands, the accompanied symptoms might include numbness, tingling, and weakness.

Researchers from University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Peninsula Medical School research showed that acupuncture provided true pain relief, the effects of acupuncture provided definite pain relief in the short-term and this relief appeared to be sustained over the longer term. Patients experienced that acupuncture not only reduced pain intensity, but also reported improvements in the disability that often results from back pain and therefore in their quality of life. Acupuncture moves the stagnant energy and blood stasis to relieve the symptoms. Acupuncture is also effective in treating lumber problems, it increases blood flow to the involved area and helps reduce inflammation at the site to allow more room for the nerve root exit spinal column without being pinched, thus eliminates or gets rid of the pain in local or radiating areas.
Bronchitis is inflammation of the mucous membranes of the bronchi, the airways that carry airflow from the trachea into the lungs. Bronchitis can be classified into two categories, acute and chronic.

Acute bronchitis is most often caused by viruses, Symptoms include Cough, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, low-grade fever, pleurisy, malaise, and the production of sputum.

Acupuncture builds up one's resistance to virus and bacteria; Decreases reactivity to the irritability of physical and chemical factors, and to inflammation from allergens; Lessens the congestion, swelling of bronchial mucosa; Reduces the inflammation secretions as well as improving the removal of these inflammatory chemicals and speeding the recovery of the structure and function of bronchial mucosa.
Acupuncture has advantages to treat cancer. Even though the standard medical care for cancer has been using, but causes numerous and aggressive unwanted side effects which can be relief by acupuncture.

Acupuncture improves immune function--these are the cells that ultimately destroy cancer cells. Acupuncture decreases stress response (both emotional & physical), this allows the body to work more efficiently and improve quality of life. Acupuncture strengthens liver function--this help lower the overall toxicity level. Acupuncture can also serve as an adjunct to other cancer treatment, reducing various kinds of side effects from chemotherapy, radiation, and biological therapy and significantly increase white blood cell count to help cancer patients to complete the course of chemo or radio therapy, as well as improving pain, lessening nausea, dry eye and dry mouth, improving energy & vitality.
Patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome usually feel burning, tingling, numbness, pain or weakness in the hand and wrist or arm. Some patients might have difficult to form a fist. A Comprehensive Text by Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine demonstrated: Acupuncture is extremely effective at treating carpal tunnel syndrome; eliminating the need for surgery or the use of anti-inflammatory drugs or corticosteroids.

Acupuncture increases blood flow and energy to the involved area to nourish the damaged tissues and balance immune system to enhance the joints functioning, and strengthen grip strength; reduce inflammation, swelling and pain. Acupuncture also can take into account any underlying conditions that contribute to the development of carpal tunnel syndrome including obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid problems, diabetes, hormonal changes of pregnancy and menopause. As well as accompany conditions include headaches, neck pain, shoulder stiffness and sleeping problems.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a disease affecting millions of Americans. The cause of CFS remains unknown and is possibly the result of multiple causes. CFS is characterized by prolonged fatigue accompanied by a combination of symptoms - musculoskeletal pain, cognitive impairment, headaches, and sleep disturbances.

Acupuncture can effectively treat the various symptoms /disease associated with Fatigue. It can reduce stress level, strengthen immune system, enhance vital energy, and increase blood/lymph circulation.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to chronic bronchitis and emphysema, a pair of two commonly co-existing diseases of the lungs in which the airway become narrowed. It is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe, cough with mucus, wheezing, chest tightness, and other symptoms.

Acupuncture improves the efficiency of the blood in exchanging oxygen; decreases mucous production in lungs; improves efficiency of tissues using oxygen, and decreases congestion and inflammation that causes C.O.P.D.
Crohn’s is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the gastrointestinal tract. Its symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, sometimes bloody, vomiting. Complications include skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, tiredness, and lack of concentration.

Acupuncture calms/balances autonomic nervous system which is responsible for bowel motility; Impro ves digestion and absorption of foods; Relieves and gets rid of the spasms of abdomen and diarrhea; Balances immune system function & decreases reactivity to food and inflammation.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has helped numerous patients suffering Depression back to recovery.

Depression is a mood disorder characterized by both psychological and physical symptoms which are detrimental to one's daily functions. Patients with depression often suffer from irregular sleeping cycle, anxiety, poor memory and complications such as chronic pain, fatigue, and arthritis. Many patients cannot tolerate the side effects of antidepressant medications; acupuncture offers an alternative safe management therapy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized acupuncture as an effective treatment for depression. Acupuncture treats patients' specific psychological and physical symptoms that are unique to the individual. Research has shown that acupuncture balance/improve cerebral dopamine and norepinephrine, which are neurotransmitters -- chemicals produced in the brain and nervous system that facilitate the transfer of information between nerve cells--that are directly related to mood elevation, elevating wakefulness, helping to reduce depression.
The treatment of Diabetes is one of Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center specialties.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.

Treatment of diabetes with acupuncture has been effective in reducing blood sugar levels by stimulating β-cell of pancreatic islet to release insulin and resisting the hormones which rise blood glucose. Acupuncture can improve microcirculation/circulation in the body, correct the metabolic disorder of lipid and protein, and prevent/treat peripheral neuropathy. Acupuncture can also reduce the prolonged healing time of diabetic non-healing skin wounds such as ulcers.

Acupuncture is more effective in treating individuals with type 2, non-insulin dependent diabetes, the most common form of diabetes. Acupuncture can attenuate the symptoms of polyphagia, (impulse to overeat), polydipsia, (excessive thirst).
The damage to the vagus nerve which controls the movement of food is resulted in the stomach takes longer time to empty its contents. The symptoms are but not limited to heartburn, vomiting undigested food, weight loss, and nausea. Diabetes can damage the vagus nerve if blood glucose levels remain high over a period of time. Due to high blood glucose causes chemical changes in nerves and damages the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to the nerves.

Based on a study that was done on 80 cases, 35 cases received acupuncture treatment and the total effective rate in the treatment group reached 94.2% comparing with the control group without acupuncture treatment the effective rate was 40%.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has developed successful treatments for a wide range of digestive system diseases (GI) now recognized by the World Health Organization in the use of acupuncture. These include: Hiatus Hernia Syndrome / Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) / Peptic Ulcers / Abdominal Pain / Heartburn / Acid Reflux / Gastritis / Constipation / Diarrhea / Crohn's Disease / Ulcerative Colitis / Recurring Diverticulitis / Gastroparesis / Diabetic Gastroparesis / Hepatitis

Acupuncture can adjust / balance gastrointestinal tract movements, the secretion of digestive glands, and the absorption of nutritious substances. As every individual body has different conditions, it also responds to acupuncture in different ways. However, acupuncture has very emphatic effect on functions related to the esophagus, stomach, and intestine. Acupuncture can reduce stress, nourish related organs, minimize symptoms, and contribute to medication-free digestive system health maintenance. Acupuncture has demonstrated effectiveness in managing the side effects of from both chemotherapy medication and anesthesia.
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands (parotid ─ salivary glands and lacrimal ─ tear glands) that produce tears and saliva. Thus leads into dry eye and dry mouth.

Acupuncture is useful for Sjogren's syndrome of primary (exist as a disorder in its own right) and secondary (may develop from associated rheumatic disorder). Acupuncture is useful not only caused by radiation (treatment for cancer patient), but also any other pathological circumstances. Studies demonstrated that acupuncture significantly relieved dry eyes and dry mouth.

The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for Lacrimation(tear), salivation, digestion etc.
Acupuncture may stimulate parasympathetic nervous system to produce more lacrimation (tear) and saliva to increase moisture in eyes and mouth.
Dysmenorrhea is painful menstruation that occurs before, during or after menstruation. The cramping usually occurs in the lower abdomen; however, it can occur in the lower back or running down the legs. In severe cases, there is nausea and vomiting, sometimes dizziness. It is caused by high levels of prostaglandin hormones produced by the uterus effecting abnormal muscle contractions that cut off blood flow in the uterus.

Acupuncture treatment has been recommended by the National Institutes of Health for dysmenorrheal. Acupuncture balances brain chemistry in order to regulate hormone, and also acupuncture increases energy and blood flow to the uterus to eliminate stagnation/blockage, thus, reduces or gets rid of menstrual cramps and other accompany symptoms.
Eczema is a type of skin disorder that appears on the outer layer of the skin. There is usually a burning or itching sensation. This medical condition is characterized by inflammation, redness, blisters (in severe cases), crusts, scales or scabs on the skin surface.

Acupuncture can help eczema in a few ways. First, it can improve blood flow to area that are involved and increase delivery of nutrients to help the skin heal. Second, acupuncture improves the function or balance of immune cells to resolve the inflammation that causes the eczema. Third, acupuncture helps to reduce a person's reactivity to the environment (one of the causes of eczema). Finally, acupuncture helps to strengthen the skin itself, making it less susceptible to eczema (or any inflammation) in the first place.
Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrium) grows in other areas of the body, such as the pelvic area, outside of the uterus, on the ovaries, bowel, rectum, bladder; causing pain, irregular bleeding, and possible infertility.

Endometriosis can be helped in a number of ways.

First, it is thought that this condition is related to a relative excess of estrogen; and acupuncture can help balance these hormones.

Second, the actual pain is caused by inflammation; and acupuncture has been shown to be anti-inflammatory.

Third, part of the problem with endometriosis may be a dysfunction of the muscle of the uterus, forcing menstruating tissue backward through the fallopian tubes causing the endometrial plagues. Acupuncture may strengthen the function of uterus muscle, help to reduce the rate of endometriosis.

Finally, acupuncture improves the perception of pain by working on the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve through modifying the action of brain chemicals (endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, etc).
Arthritis is a group of conditions involving damage to the various
Eye conditions respond well to acupuncture and it has been used successfully to treat a wide range of eye problems for centuries. Common eye problems treated with acupuncture include: early-stage cataracts, glaucoma, night blindness, blurred vision, excessive tearing, swelling and pain of the eye or supraorbital region, twitching of the eyelids, eye strain, ptosis, photophobia, dry, itchy, redness eyes etc.

Acupuncture promotes circulation of energy (life force) and blood around the eyes to nourish the tissue and improve all conditions listed above of the eyes. Acupuncture may ease tired eyes, reduce heavy eye bags and treat underlying causes/disease too.
Facial Paralysis is a disorder also known as "Ball's Palsy" ,in which the facial muscles of one side become (usually suddenly) weak or paralyzed. The facial nerves of one side are damaged and are unable to function properly.

According to Chinese medicine, this disorder is ascribed to an obstruction disrupting the flow of circulation caused by pathogens invading the channels traversing the face. These obstructions prevent the vessels and muscles from receiving the necessary nourishment.

The acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions at the dams, and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture thus helps to correct imbalances in the facial energy and circulation.

Early treatment is important to avoid permanent damage to the nerves. There are 10-15 acupuncture sessions in one course of treatment. Treatment frequency depends on individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
Fibromyalgia is a medically unexplained syndrome which symptoms include long-term body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, tendons and muscles. Other symptoms commonly occur together include but not limited to: chronic pain, debilitating fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression, inability to concentrate, IBS, painful menstrual cramps, and poor circulation in the hands and feet.

Acupuncture has shown to be very effective for fibromyalgia. Studies show that acupuncture can help lessen pain by altering brain chemistry to change the release of neurotransmitters to stimulate or inhibit nerve impulses in the brain that relay sensations such as pain. Acupuncture also improves blood flow and immune function, and helps adrenal insufficiency (usually a problem for people with fibromyalgia). Therefore it not only works on the cause of the problem but also all the accompanied symptoms.
Frozen shoulder is painful, stiffness and limited range of motion due to inflammation. Most commonly caused by inflammation of synovial tissue or thickening of synovial fluid.

Several studies have reported acupuncture treatment provide “significantly greater improvement” on frozen shoulder. Acupuncture can reduce inflammation by balancing immune system, and increasing blood and energy flow to the pain area which relieve pain and increase shoulder joint range of motion.
Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) is a digestive disorder consisting of a partial paralysis of the stomach, which reduces the ability of the stomach to empty its contents.  Normally, the stomach contracts by vagus nerve to move food down into the small intestine for digestion. If the vagus nerve is damaged, Gastroparesis may occur. Symptoms include but not limited to feeling of fullness after only a few bits of food, abdominal distention, bloating, nausea, vomiting and excessive belching.

Acupuncture balances immune system to help speed up healing of vagus nerve damaged. Acupuncture also may balance brain chemistry to regulate nerve system working more effective.  Thus, increases the stomach muscle movement and shorten the time of stomach empty. Furthermore, acupuncture has very emphatic effect on the secretion of digestive glands, and the absorption of nutritious substances.
Headaches are pain in the region of the head or neck and extremely common. Headaches may result from any number of factors, like tension, stress, muscle contraction, vascular problems, sinusitis, menstruation-related, post injury, migraine, side effects of certain medications.

Acupuncture can effectively relieve headaches whatever the causes, simultaneously treat their underlying diseases.  Acupuncture increases local blood flow and along with it, an increase in nutrients and immune cells. These are the ingredients for healing. There is also evidence that acupuncture tends to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry, hormone levels, and immune cell function. Because the brain controls everything in the body, a balanced brain should allow for more effective healing, speeding the reduction of headaches.

It may take a few acupuncture sessions for general headache; may need more sessions for chronic and complicated headaches. Treatment frequency depends on individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest, which associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain usually occurs behind the breastbone or in the epigastrium. It often radiate to the throat, neck, or angle of the jaw.

Acupuncture has been treating heartburn very effectively to reduce the symptoms, help recover from the cause of heartburn by adjusting the esophageal pressure, lowering gastric acid, balancing the functions of the digestive organs.
A Hiatus Hernia is an abnormal protrusion of the stomach up through the diaphragm and into the chest cavity.

Acupuncture increases the tone of the muscle around the esophagus and causes the stomach to empty more quickly to help keep or return the stomach to its proper position. Acupuncture can also help balance stomach acid, protect the stomach membrane, decrease heartburn.
High blood pressure makes the heart work harder, increasing its oxygen demands and contributing to angina. This excessive pressure can lead to an enlarged heart (cardiomegaly), as well as damage to blood vessels in the kidneys and brain. It increases the risk of heart attacks, stroke and kidney disease.

Acupuncture has been found to be particularly helpful in lowering blood pressure. By applying acupuncture needles at specific sites of meridians which locate over nerve pathways it sends impulses to the brain to regulate brain chemicals and the cardiovascular system. This, in turn, lower blood pressure. Acupuncture also treats other complicating diseases related blood pressure.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical has developed successful acupuncture treatment protocols, discovering and using specific Chinese acupuncture points, to lower high cholesterol.
The cholesterol, is a lipid (a type of fat), in a person's blood originates from two major sources, about 20% of dietary intake and 80% of liver production.
LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol is called "bad" cholesterol, because elevated levels of LDL cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. Over time, LDL cholesterol plaque causes thickening of the artery walls and narrowing of the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis.
HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol is called the "good cholesterol" because HDL cholesterol particles prevent atherosclerosis by extracting cholesterol from the artery walls and disposing of them through the liver.
Thus, low levels of LDL cholesterol and high levels of HDL cholesterol (low LDL/HDL ratios) are desirable.
The liver monitors and balances the LDL and HDL cholesterol levels in the blood. After a meal, the liver removes cholesterol in blood circulation. In between meals, the liver manufactures and secretes cholesterol back into the blood circulation. Therefore if the liver is not functioning properly, it can lead to high cholesterol (high LDL/HDL ratios).

Acupuncture increases liver functions, improves microcirculation/circulation in the body, corrects the metabolic disorder of lipid and protein, and lowers the LDL/HDL ratio. Also prevents/ decreases the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease
In gastroenterology, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), also called spastic colon, is a functional bowel disorder characterized by mild to severe abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, cramping, constipation, and diarrhea.

Acupuncture calms/balances autonomic nervous system which is responsible for bowel motility; Improves digestion of foods and lessens fermentation and gas formation; Improves immune system function and decreases reactivity to food.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has developed successful method of acupuncture combining electro- acupuncture and traditional acupuncture whose points are selected based on individual conditions, to assist couples who desire to conceive naturally, or with the assistance of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or Intro-Uterine Insemination (IUI). These acupuncture treatments are implemented according to each patient's presenting pattern and desired method of conception.

The acupuncture infertility treatments promote the following physical changes:
  • Increases blood flow to the uterus
  • Promotes thickening of the uterine lining
  • Improves functioning of the ovaries to produce better quality eggs
  • Lowers elevated FSH numbers
  • Stimulates hormones to produce a larger number of follicles
  • Relaxes the body and decreases stress levels
  • Decreases the possibility of miscarriage
  • Identifies potential disease that may affect fertility
  • Reduces side-effects from medications

Assistance with IVF or IUI patients will require at least 12 acupuncture sessions before the embryos transfer or IUI insemination. If sperm are provided by the husband, it is the most beneficial for the couple to have joint acupuncture treatments. Since acupuncture improves the quantity and quality of sperm and improves the overall quality of the semen, it increases the chances of creating a healthy, viable embryo and assists in a more secure implantation.

Patients who wish to become pregnant naturally will require 24 acupuncture sessions, twice a week for 12 weeks. Then doctors of Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center will reassess the progress of the acupuncture infertility treatments. Again, treating both the male and female is extremely important for the effectiveness of all the acupuncture infertility treatments. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
Insomnia is a common symptom of disturbed sleep patterns. It can be caused by stress, anxiety, medication, chronic pain, hormonal imbalances, cardiovascular, digestive, neurological disorders, nutrition and environmental noise. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can treat these causes and in turn eliminate insomnia as a symptom.

Acupuncture can balance brain chemistry and hormones. Our sleep/wake cycles are dependent on our hormone balances and internal clock. Acupuncture harmonizes a disturbed sleep cycle and calms the nervous system through a positive impact on endorphins and other brain chemicals.
Acupuncture treatment of Interstitial Cystitis has shown to be more effective than Western medicine.
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a condition that results in recurring discomfort or pain in the bladder and the surrounding pelvic region. People may experience mild discomfort, pressure, tenderness, or intense pain in the bladder and pelvic area, and an urgent and frequent need to urinate. Pain may change in intensity as the bladder fills with urine or as it empties.

Acupuncture increases blood flow to the bladder, strengthen pelvic muscles that aid in control, and trigger the release of pain-blocking hormones. It can help control the frequency, urgency, and pain associated with IC. Acupuncture stimulates nerve system to strengthen the bladder muscle and improve bladder function. Besides treating the underlying cause of this disorder, acupuncture can also reduce the nervousness and emotional stress brought upon the patients by this disorder. Herbal therapy may be used in combination to better treat the bladder dysfunction.
Kidney stones or renal calculi are solid concretions or calculi formed in the kidney from dissolved urinary minerals. Kidney stones may cause sudden, severe pain as they travel from the kidneys to the bladder.

Acupuncture helps ease the spasms that can occur in the ureter (the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder). Once the ureter is more relaxed, the stone can pass easier.

Acupuncture helps with the inflammation that a stone can cause, this inflammation will also prevent a stone from passing.

Acupuncture also helps lessen the degree of pain caused by the stone.

Acupuncture may balance body's chemistry that helps prevent the formation of crystals and stones, and prevent some types of stones from coming back.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical has developed a special acupuncture technique that helps patients with Lyme Disease.
Lyme Disease can cause abnormalities in the skin, the joints, the heart, and the nervous system. Most patients are often also suffering from generalized fatigue, muscle and joint stiffness/pain, swollen glands, and headache.

Acupuncture can help Lyme Disease in 3 different ways:
Immune function--acupuncture can improve the functions of the immune system to fight the bacteria that cause Lyme Disease.
Pain--acupuncture has a direct pain relieving effect on the joint and muscle pain associated with Lyme Disease.
Hormonal--most people with Lyme also have adrenal insufficiency; acupuncture can help this by balancing/tonifying adrenal function.
According to a study which was published in the journal, Neuroscience Letters, acupuncture can significantly improve learning and memory capacity. In our clinical practice, it has further demonstrated that acupuncture improves human's learning ability and memory capacity according to our patients' feedback. Please see the following for the detailed study.

Acupuncture can significantly improve learning and memory capacity that has been impaired by hyperglycemia and cerebral ischemia, according to a new study. The study that was published in the October 2008 issue of the journal, Neuroscience Letters, reported on whether electro acupuncture (acupuncture needles stimulated with a mild electrical current) could improve learning and memory which was typically impaired in diabetic rats with cerebral ischemia. The effects of the acupuncture treatments were measured with a passive avoidance test, an active avoidance test, the Morris water maze and electrophysiology. Significant improvements were seen with all the tests.

The researchers remarked that previous investigations have demonstrated that electro acupuncture can improve primary and secondary symptoms such as peripheral neuropathy and diabetic encephalopathy in diabetic rats. They believe that the positive results of this study warrant further investigation.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center has developed a special acupuncture technique that helps patients with Meniere's Disease successfully.
Meniere's Disease (Named after French physician Prosper Meniere who first described the syndrome) is an abnormality of the inner ear causing a host of symptoms, including vertigo or severe dizziness, tinnitus or a roaring sound in the ears, fluctuating hearing loss, and the sensation of pressure or pain in the affected ear.

Acupuncture promotes the blood circulation in the region of the brain that reduces inflammation and the accumulation of fluid in the ear. Acupuncture regulates the vegetative nervous system and alleviates symptoms of vertigo and nausea. Acupuncture promotes blood flow to assist the body's natural tendency toward balance and health.
Menopause is a period of time which the cessation of ovulation and produce less estrogen and progesterone in woman’s body. Changes in these hormones cause symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, memory loss, vaginal dryness, headaches, joint pain, irregular heartbeat, and weight gain etc.

Acupuncture treatment is very effective for woman experiencing menopause. It’s a therapy without any of the potentially harsh side-effects of hormone replacement therapy. Acupuncture balances hormone, brain chemistries, Yin and Yang levels to significant decline in hot flushes and vaginal dryness; increases energy; improves sleep and memory; regulates heart beat and releases stress and calms the mood; and may help weight loss. Acupuncture treatment not only works for the symptoms that menopause causes but also slows down the aging process.
Migraine is a chronic disorder that causes recurrent moderate to severe headaches, associated symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, photophobia, and physical activity aggravates the pain. Migraines can be caused by a variety of physical and environmental factors, such as stress, menstruation, weather, and allergens.

Acupuncture treatment is effective for migraines. Acupuncture regulates the over contraction and dilation of blood vessels, removes stagnant energy and blood stasis, also harmonizes the autonomic nervous system to decrease the migraine headaches, muscle tension in the neck and upper back, emotional stress which triggers migraines and other associated symptoms. Studies demonstrated acupuncture not only reduces the severity and frequency of migraines, but also may prevent and treat the root causes of migraines headaches.
Acupuncture & Chinese Medical Center specializes in treating mild closed head injuries (minor blunt injuries). This includes:
  • Sequelae from a Cerebral Concussion
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Neck/Shoulders/Back Pain
  • Nausea and/or Vomiting
  • Difficulty Speaking (Aphasia), Walking
  • Confusion
  • Drowsiness
  • Change in Memory
Acupuncture causes an increase in local blood flow with a resulting increase in nutrients and immune cells. These are the ingredients for healing. There is also evidence that acupuncture tends to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry, hormone levels, and immune cell function and have a beneficial effect on the healing of the brain and /or nerves after injuries. Because the brain controls everything in the body, a balanced brain should allow for more effective healing.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, it is caused by damage to the myelin sheath that surrounds nerve cells due to inflammation, and the disease interferes with messages between the body and brain. The symptoms vary since the location and severity varies, patients with multiple sclerosis can have symptoms -- muscle spasms, numbness, limited range of motion, tremors, muscle weakness and loss of balance. If it affects the bowel and bladder area, symptoms can include constipation, difficulty urinating, and frequent need to urinate. If effects the eye, symptoms include double vision, eye discomfort, and vision loss. Patient might have decreased attention span, memory loss, and depression and hearing loss.

Acupuncture helps to balance the immune response and increase the cells that stop this reaction. Acupuncture also helps to alter blood flow in the brain, which modulate sensory information between the brain and body to speed healing of the damage. Studies show acupuncture can provide effective relief for many MS symptoms, such as: reduced pain, decreased spasticity, improved bladder and bowel dysfunction, alleviating tingling and numbness, and other accompany symptoms.
According to western medicine, a small group of neurons in the brain has been implicated in producing transitions from sleep to wakefulness and vice-versa. People with narcolepsy may have fewer of these neurons, or these neurons may have been damaged.

Acupuncture appears to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry/neurotransmitters. Improving dopamine and norepinephrine has the effect of elevating mood and wakefulness. Acupuncture has also been shown to have a beneficial effect on the healing of the brain and /or nerves/neurons after injuries or damages. Acupuncture strengthens muscle tone which may help prevent cataplexy. Acupuncture can treat emotional and other underlying affects of disorder to improve symptoms of narcolepsy.
Neck pain is a common problem; it may arise due to muscular tightness in the neck and upper back, pinching of the nerves and other spinal problems. Other accompanied symptoms might include headache, dizziness, heart palpitations, insomnia and etc.

Acupuncture moves the blood flow and energy to the involved area to release the pain, tightened muscles and speed up the healing. Acupuncture also releases the pressure caused by pinching of the nerve and relives the accompanied symptoms.
Common system of Neurogenic Bladder include urinary urgency, urinary incontinence, urinary hesitancy and emptying bladder difficulty.

The acupuncture treatment is targeted to improve the communication between the nervous system and the bladder muscles, and reduce the mistaken signals between them. Acupuncture is effective in treating this condition. Besides treating the underlying cause of this disorder, acupuncture can also reduce the nervousness and emotional stress brought upon the patients by this disorder. Herbal therapy may be used in combination to better treat the bladder dysfunction.
Nocturnal Enuresis is a disorder marked by bed wetting at night. This disorder is most commonly in children. The main cause of nocturnal enuresis is due to the lack of bladder control caused by the miscommunication between nervous system and the muscles of the bladder.

The acupuncture treatment is targeted to improve the communication between the nervous system and the bladder muscles, and reduce the mistaken signals between them. Acupuncture is relatively effective in treating this condition. Besides treating the underlying cause of this disorder, acupuncture can also reduce the nervousness and emotional stress brought upon the patients by this disorder. Herbal therapy may be used in combination to better treat the bladder dysfunction.
Contrary to common misconception, acupuncture is effective in helping patients with Osteoporosis.
Usually in women, this rate of bone loss accelerates significantly after menopause.

Acupuncture balances function of hormone, adrenal and parathyroid glands to slow down the rate of bone loss. Acupuncture improves digestion and absorption of protein and vitamin D, which help the body build bone and absorb calcium to help retard or even halt bone loss.
Pain, in the sense of physical pain, is defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage..." Pain may be described as shooting, throbbing, pulling, burning, aching, electrical, sharp, dull, uncomfortable, sore, tight, or stiff.

Pain can be in any part of the body, including the head, face, neck, chest, stomach, abdomen, pelvis, back, joints (shoulder, arm, elbow, finger, wrist, leg, knee, ankle, and toe), rib cage, spine, etc. Pain may be caused by illness or by injury.

Placing and manipulating the acupuncture needles causes an increase in local blood flow and along with it, an increase in nutrients and immune cells. These are the ingredients for healing. There is also evidence that acupuncture tends to have a balancing effect on brain chemistry, hormone levels, and immune cell function. Because the brain controls everything in the body, a balanced brain should allow for more effective healing, speeding the reduction of pain. Acupuncture simultaneously treats the underlying disease.

Some cases take just a few sessions. Chronic and complex cases may need 10-15 sessions or more, depending on the individual condition. Chinese herbs work synergistically with acupuncture.
Peptic Ulcer, also known as Ulcus Pepticum, PUD or Peptic Ulcer Disease, is an ulcer (defined as mucosal erosions equal to or greater than 0.5 cm) of an area of the gastrointestinal tract that is usually acidic and thus extremely painful.

Acupuncture clears heat and detoxifies to treat acid and reduces inflammation; Tonifies energy to protect gastric and duodenal membranes, and generate new flesh; Regulates energy to promote the stomach and intestinal movement and soothe nerves; Invigorates blood to improve the local micro blood circulation that helps heal the ulcer and prevent its relapse.
General systems of Peripheral Neuropathy reveal weakness, numbness, paresthesia (abnormal sensation such as burning, tickling, pricking, or tingling) and pain in arms, hands, legs, and /or feet.

Acupuncture is effective in treating this condition by promoting and inducing the energy and blood circulation to the extremities. By improving the circulation, the nerve tissues of the affected area can be nourished to repair the nerve functions and reduce pain. Herbal therapy may be combined with acupuncture to achieve faster results.
Pneumonia is a common lung infection caused by bacteria, a virus or fungi. Acupuncture helps to treat and prevent recurrent pneumonia. Children even babies can get more benefits from acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture strengthens the immunity; Controls the growth of the pathogen; Lessens congestion and swelling of alveolar capillaries, fibrinous exudation and cellular infiltration; Improves the efficiency of the blood in exchanging oxygen; Lessens inflammation and airway reactivity, and promotes a quick recovery.
Besides successfully treating infertility and preventing miscarriages, acupuncture is also a safe, effective alternative way to address the symptoms and health problems that accompanied with pregnancy and childbirth.

Acupuncture can be done at different phases of pregnancy: At the early stage acupuncture strengthens, supports, and balances overall health, regulates hormone levels, and reduces stress to produce healthy babies. During pregnancy, acupuncture is highly effective at treating problems including morning sickness, heartburn, constipation, insomnia, back pain, anxiety, depression and other accompanied diseases. Acupuncture provides natural pain relief during labor, and effectively revolves fetuses in breech presentation and induces labor.
Postpartum care focuses on the physical, emotional and psychological recovery of the mother from labor and encouraging breast feeding. Acupuncture helps these postpartum depression, fatigue, insufficient or excessive lactation, and night sweat etc.

Some cases take just a few or several sessions. Chronic and complex cases may need 10-15 sessions or more, depending on the individual condition.
The prostate is prone to enlargement and inflammation in men beginning in their sixties.

Acupuncture may increase energy and blood flow to the prostate area to reduce inflammation or infection; decrease in urinary difficulties and improve urinary bladder function. Acupuncture also helps to reduce or get rid of the pain and prevent the more serious conditions from occurring, such as prostate cancer, urinary tract infections, bladder or kidney damage, bladder stone, and incontinence. The studies completed on "acupuncture and prostatitis" show positive results with participants noticing a marked improvement.
Acupuncture treatment of Pulmonary Emphysema has shown to be more effective than Western medicine. Pulmonary Emphysema is a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, as it is otherwise known, formerly termed a chronic obstructive lung disease). It is often caused by exposure to toxic chemicals, including long-term exposure to tobacco smoke.

Acupuncture decreases reactivity to allergies and the injuries done to lungs tissue by inflammation; Increases blood flow by decreasing pressure to the alveolar capillaries; Strengthens the nourishing of lungs tissue; Slows down the degeneration of elasticity of alveolus wall; Improves breathing function, enhances ventilator function.
Raynaud's Disease is constricted blood vessels in the hands and feet causing the fingers or toes to turn blue or white. The symptoms include discoloration, numbness or tingling and coolness at the fingers or toes.

A recent study indicates that acupuncture surpasses drug treatment for Raynaud's disease. Acupuncture treatment regulates brain chemistries/nervous system to balance the function of vasoconstriction, and improve blood circulation in the affected areas.
Recurring Diverticulitis is inflammation or infection of one or more balloon-like sacs (diverticula). Diverticulitis typically causes pain, tenderness (usually in the left lower part of the abdomen), and fever.

Acupuncture improves immune function to decrease inflammation and reduce bacterial counts; Improves blood flow to bowel that speeds healing and strengthens mucosa; Helps reduce transit time (amount of time stool remains in colon), this reduces irritation/inflammation; Helps strengthen bowel muscle and decreases the likelihood of forming diverticula.
Some common complaints associated with (allergic) rhinitis are: runny nose, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, congestion of nose, throat and sinus.

Acupuncture strengthens the function of defense in respiratory tract and entire body; Reduces the reproductive capacity of virus and bacteria; Alleviates the congestion, swollen and inflammatory exudation of nasal cavity, pharynx and larynx; Balances immune system to decrease healing time.
Several different lumbar spine (low back) disorders can cause sciatica, the most common reason are: a Bulging or Herniated Disk, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis. Sciatica is often described as mild to intense pain in the left or right leg, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the legs. Sciatica is caused by compression of one or more of the five sets of nerve roots in the lower back.

Acupuncture increases blood flow to the Bulging/Hernia Disk or Lumbar Spinal Stenosis area and helps reduce inflammation at that site, this allows more room for the nerve root to exit the spinal column without being pinched. Repair is done by immune system--acupuncture balances the immune system and decreases healing time.
Acupuncture helps control seizures. Studies in China have shown acupuncture to be a safe, reliable way to reduce or lower seizure activity. One German study involved 98 people with epilepsy, 65 people showed marked improvements with an absence of seizures during a one-year period without drugs. Acupuncture knows no age limit. Children - even babies - can benefit from acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture decreases or blocks abnormal neuronal electric discharge (epileptic discharge) which causes an imbalance of brain function (seizure).

Acupuncture balances the internal environment to control the predisposing cause of seizures, It stabilizes brain function and regulates the functioning of the endocrine, gastrointestinal, respiratory, nerve and other systems. Restores the balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual, helps relieve stress, poor sleep, anxiety, depression which related to epilepsy.
Tennis elbow (golfer's elbow, medical epicondylitis) is an inflammation of the muscles and tendons of the forearm.

Acupuncture increases blood flow to the tennis elbow area to improve the delivery of nutrients and immune cells that repair and heal the muscles and tendons of inflammation. Acupuncture can stimulate lymphatic flow as well, this helps reduce swelling, pain and remove the chemicals that cause inflammation.
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease which affects the lining of the large intestine and rectum. The symptoms include abdominal pain, blood in the stool, diarrhea, fever, tenesmus, nausea and vomiting, and weight loss.

Based on a study done on patient with ulcerative colitis, it has proven that the total effective rate is 91.94% with acupuncture treatment.  Acupuncture balances the immune system to reduce the inflammation in the intestine and rectum, it also speeds up the healing of the ulcers formed due to the inflammation.
A Urinary Tract Infection is an infection that begins in your urinary system. Your urinary system is composed of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Any part of your urinary system can become infected, but most infections involve the lower urinary tract -- the urethra and the bladder. The bladder infection is known as Cystitis.

Women are at greater risk of developing a Urinary Tract Infection than men. A Urinary Tract Infection limited to your bladder can be painful and annoying.

Acupuncture improves circulation of energy and blood in the lower abdomen to help reduce the residual level in the bladder. Acupuncture can also reduce the severity of urinary tract infection and bladder infection, reduce or get rid of the pain, increase the healing and prevent them from recurring.
Acupuncture for weight loss may offer you an additional resource to help you lose weight. Acupuncture can help in a number of ways.

  • Because acupuncture helps change brain chemistry, it changes cravings and can change emotional attachments to food. This helps eliminate eating for reasons other than hunger. Acupuncture also helps willpower/determination making sticking to a diet easier.
  • Acupuncture can improve metabolism and, therefore, can help a person burn more calories.
  • Acupuncture can improve digestion/absorption of nutrients from food-this lessens the physical drive to eat.
